So I had an interesting meeting with swee10.com

One day I received a message from a company named swee10 who was interested in meeting and talking about perhaps collaboration with our design studio, not being familiar with them, I decided to Google and visit their website and to my surprise the company brings homeowners and contractor together in a cohesive station where homeowners post photos of their home projects and contractors bid on them.

Now I am interested thinking, so I read so more, much like our company that brings our designers and homeowners together to create great home spaces. It provides homeowners with the control and access of many contractors and eliminates the hassle associated with interviewing many contractors for a home renovation job. So I was intrigue and after a few email we arrange to meet at T Zone in Chelsea Market in NY (which by the way is one of the best food market in NYC), when I got there I met two of the brains behind this fabulous concept, Jean and Kirby and within just a few minutes we were exchanging ideas and collaborating, it was obvious that we all have similar passions of providing affordable tools for homeowners to create great homes environment. Jean is an architect who had a difficult time finding the right contractor to work in her own home and had this great idea to start a website that could give the homeowners control over work they were looking to do in their home and at the same time provide good contractors with work leads.

I am looking forward to our future collaboration as they are looking to expand their range not only to provide home contractors resources but interior designer services as well. So check out http://swee10.com so you could see for yourself what great service they provide. We are happy to showcase companies like ourselves that provide affordable options for home owners to create great environments in their home. How sweet is that!

Small space does not have to be small in design!

So we had a customer who has a very small one room studio, this room had to be multi functional space, it had to serve as a bedroom, entertainment area, work and dining spaces. She wanted it to be stylish and suited for entertaining even though it was barely a 400sq ft space. We achieve this by putting the daybed in the middle of the room and everything else around it. This allows for daybed to function as a bed for sleeping and sofa for entertaining. Putting the desk under the window allows natural light ideal for working and eating. When entertaining the chairs can be use for extra seating. The rich colors of green, wine, and gold give this space a upscale feel, we used curtain along a wall to hide all the storage closet space and the overhead lighting provides flexible lighting. So don’t let a small space fool you because with a little creativity your could create great spaces that is not small in design!

Vintage Farm Looks have been recycle.

Perhaps is the fact that spring is around the corner or that we are drawn to nature after a long winter, but it seem that many manufacturers are going back to nature for inspirations and there was many farm and nature points of reference that we saw at the shows this season. From the barn wood used in so many furniture this season, to the purity of linen and raw silk used in upholstery pieces. Another material widely used was rod iron and petina metal, which was used in many table legs, lighting, and accessories. Many vintage gardening tools and the representation of vintage garden inspired prints were being used in both outdoor and indoor settings. Although this look is not for everyone, it is a fresh new perspective that makes us look to nature for inspiration.

The Power of Color to Transform a Room

Color’s power to shape the way we feel about a room is almost magical. Consciously or unconsciously, very often it’s the first thing we notice. Going on step further and using decorative finish adds a whole new dimension. A dry brush can produce a look of raw silk, faux finishes can simulate everything from marble to fine woods and something as simple as an over scaled stencil design to a series of stripes in contrasting colors can fool the eye and create interest.

But of course, faux and decorative have their practical aspects as well. An elaborate color grid distracts the eye, a mottled glazed might camouflage a damage surface and wood graining give inexpensive material a look of something far more precious. But at heart decorative painting is not all about solving problems but about the simple pleasure of creating something beautiful by hand.

Color has the power to add character to a dull space, soften a harsh one, makes a room feel warm or cold intimate or expansive. Is by far the most economical way to transform a room. Any successful decorative finish begins with good colors. “Good Color” is highly subjective, but we’ve provided some guidelines to help you arrive at some of your favorites. Then we have gather the best colors that inspired us and have been successful applications on some projects and the most popular from our clients.

In the step by steps, we give instructions tips and specific colors for techniques that are building blocks-used separately or in combination, they will enable you to create a huge array of looks. But, in the end, decorative painting is as much as craft and best mastered by hands on practice. How much color you mix in the glaze or how you apply it to the wall varies from painter to painter and the results vary correspondingly. Sometimes the mistakes turn out to be happy ones. Ultimately, the best approach is to pick up a brush, experiment and discover the power of color and decorative painting for yourself.

Hot Pink- A New Hot Color

Pink

HOT PINK

When we went to the gift show on January in New York, many manufacturers where incorporating pops of hot pink and fuchsia in furniture and home accessories. We particularly like the patent leather chairs we found. They were bright and shiny and a great way to inject a punch of color to a teenager room or even a contemporary interior. We would love to see it in a space that combines black and white and even gray!                       All you need is one or two of these great bright pieces to make a huge impact.
